Senior care and housing in Canada
The Canadian retirement home industry has made great strides forward in recent years in meeting the needs of an increasingly engaged market. Long gone are the days when the only option for people was to be put in a nursing home. Today, seniors can choose from many options in housing: from active adult living retirement homes to long term care that is a vast improvement over the "nursing homes" of the past.
These changes are not merely superficial in terms of clenalinees or technology - although those are important. Perhaps more importantly, there are profound changes in the philsophy toward retirement homes coming from within Canada's reitrement home industry itself. As Lynn Webster has said, we are setting forth "a creative and holistic perspective to meet the wishes of a new generation of seniors who want an active and involved retirement."
Find out more about how the industry as a whole is responding to cultural change with a much wider variety of retirement living options.
Incidentally, Comfort Life has enthusiastically covered these changes for the past several years, since 2002. In addition to this site and the magazine (Comfort Life), we work closely with the retirement home industry through our magazine Dialogue+ and its accompanying website. These are intended to help Canada's retirement home professionals communicate with each other to most efficiently and effectively meet the needs of Canada's seniors.
